How ROI is calculated
Return on investment compares the profit or loss from an investment with its initial cost.
ROI formula: ((final value − initial investment) ÷ initial investment) × 100.
For example, if an investment costs 1,000 and later has a value of 1,250, the profit is 250 and the ROI is 25%.
A negative ROI means the final value is lower than the initial investment. A positive ROI means the investment gained value.
If you provide the investment duration, the calculator also estimates the compound annualized return using the beginning value, ending value and number of years.
How to use it
Enter the initial investment and final value to calculate ROI and profit or loss. Optionally enter the investment duration in years to estimate the annualized return.
