Percentage Calculator

Calculate a percentage of a number, find what percentage one number is of another, or measure percentage change.

Choose a percentage calculation

What is X% of Y?

Formula: (percentage ÷ 100) × number

%

X is what % of Y?

Formula: (part ÷ whole) × 100

What is the % change?

Formula: ((new − old) ÷ old) × 100

How to interpret the results

  • A percentage can exceed 100 when the part is larger than the whole.
  • Percentage change uses the old value as its denominator, so the old value cannot be zero.
  • A positive change means an increase and a negative change means a decrease. Starting from a negative value can produce a counterintuitive result, so review the formula before using it.
  • Results are rounded for display to at most ten decimal places.

How to use it

Choose the calculation that matches your question, enter both values, then select Calculate. Decimal and negative values are accepted. A zero comparison or starting value cannot be used as a denominator.
