What is free?

Tailscale Personal is $0 and described as free forever for non-commercial use. It currently allows up to six users, unlimited user devices, three ACL groups, 50 tagged resources and 1,000 ephemeral-resource minutes per month. Clients are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and additional platforms.

What are the limitations?

The Personal plan is for home and other non-commercial use, not business operation. A custom-domain signup is treated as business use and normally enters a trial, although a genuine personal user can opt out into Personal. Tailscale requires an account and identity-provider authentication. Advanced organisational management, unlimited users and commercial deployment require paid plans. On macOS, the direct standalone download avoids any App Store payment-profile requirement.

Who is it best for?

Home users, families, homelab operators and hobbyists who want secure private access between devices without opening services directly to the internet.

Muft verdict

A generous free personal network with unlimited user devices, but its non-commercial restriction is decisive. Do not use the free Personal plan as a business VPN; choose a paid plan or a genuinely self-managed alternative for commercial infrastructure.
