What is free?

All OpenLearn courses are free to study. You can read course content without an account. A free account lets you enrol, track progress and earn a downloadable Statement of Participation after completing the required pages and quizzes. Selected 24-hour courses also award a free digital badge.

What are the limitations?

OpenLearn does not award an Open University qualification or formal academic credit. Statements and badges show participation, not an accredited qualification. Earning them requires an account, enrolment, reading every required page and submitting quizzes; some quizzes require at least 50%. Older activities may have browser or accessibility limitations.

Who is it best for?

Independent learners who want flexible university-created material across many subjects and value a free completion record without needing formal credit.

Muft verdict

A strong genuinely free learning platform with unusually clear credential terms. Choose it for self-paced learning and evidence of participation, not for an accredited university certificate.
