What is free?
MIT OpenCourseWare makes materials from more than 2,500 MIT courses freely available without signup, enrollment, start dates or end dates. Depending on the course, resources can include syllabi, lecture notes, reading lists, assignments, exams, videos and free textbooks, with many files downloadable for offline study.
What are the limitations?
OCW is a publication of course materials rather than a taught course service. It does not provide instructor interaction, enrollment, grading, MIT academic credit or certificates. Material completeness varies by course, and some readings or external resources may require separate access. Reuse must follow the applicable Creative Commons terms and attribution requirements.
Who is it best for?
Independent learners and educators who want rigorous MIT course materials without enrollment or credential expectations.
Muft verdict
Exceptional for open access to university-level material and self-designed study. Its deliberate tradeoff is that knowledge—not a certificate, feedback or credit—is the reward.
